Ruthie often bring her daughter, Or, to work. One problem: Ruthie is a prostitute and Or is a 17-year-old trying to resist that life ? and get her mother out of it. Or attends high school, sometimes, in Tel Aviv, in between doing an endless succession of petty jobs: restaurant dishwashing, cleaning staircases and collecting bottles. She is in danger of being swallowed up by her mother?s profession. When Ruthie?s health worsens, Or gets her a job housecleaning, believing this will change everything. When it doesn?t, the conflict between Ruthie and Or escalates, especially when Or?s sexuality complicates things. Devoid of music and shot with a stationary camera, OR is a tense, minimalist affair. Adding to its power is Ruthie?s portrayal by noted actress and filmmaker Ronit Elkabetz.
