As all writers know, truth is stranger than fiction; Solondz plays with this adage in a wicked way. Amusingly anti-social, STORYTELLING is told in two parts, ?Fiction? and ?Nonfiction.? In ?Fiction,? a story by an aspiring writer with cerebral palsy is ridiculed in his class. His soon-to-be ex-girlfriend seduces their professor, then presents their tryst as a short story read aloud in class. In ?Nonfiction,? Paul Giamatti plays a documentary filmmaker searching for ?true? teenage life. Full of clipped writing, deft characterization and purposely politically-incorrect situations.
