Dawn Weiner will go down in history as the iconic misfit adolescent whose actions make everyone squirm. Humiliated by nearly everyone, Dawn is a scapegoat: an unattractive, slump-shouldered girl who wears tacky clothes and thick glasses. The middle child of a Jewish, suburban New Jersey family, Dawn doesn?t have a chance next to her cute, ballerina sister or her older brother, who has a garage band. This ugly duckling stays an ugly duckling, and Solondz does not pull any punches in revealing that parents do love certain children more than others.
