A.K.A. NIKKI S. LEE is a documentary-style film that depicts the real life and work of the artist Nikki S. Lee. Lee appears as two distinct invented personas: an intellectual working out of a Brooklyn loft ("Nikki A") and a world traveler who loves to socialize and thinks nothing of hopping on a plane to go shopping in Venice ("Nikki B"). The activities of both Nikkis are interwoven as the actual events of Nikki S. Lee's life unfold. While Nikki B jets to Paris, Mexico City, and Korea, Nikki A stays in New York, working and reading books in her studio. Nikki A finally concludes, "I think New York is the only place I can be Nikki." (In English and Korean with English subtitles) – B.B.
As part of our annual collaboration with MOCA Cleveland, the film A.K.A. NIKKI S. LEE will be followed by a conversation with Nikki S. Lee and her gallerist Leslie Tonkonow.
