A ruined marriage rages in the small spaces of train cars and hotel rooms, eventually exploding in the streets of Prague. Christoffer (Mads Mikkelsen) and Maja, a middle-aged couple, travel from Denmark to Prague with the intention of bringing home the body of Christoffer's recently deceased father. Having not spoken with his father in 25 years, Christoffer struggles with the proceedings of the trip, which are further only complicated by the Czech bureaucracy. The trip also provides Christoffer with the opportunity to be alone with Maja and to confront her about her affair and the fate of their marriage. Shot with a 35mm handheld camera, PRAGUE is startlingly intimate and blatantly emotional. Prague itself, from its streets to its hotel rooms, is illuminated as a lovely city and a labyrinth from which the couple cannot escape. Mikkelsen's performance as Christoffer, facing so many crises at once with so little emotion, is awe inspiring. Enhanced by a haunting soundtrack, this heartbreaking story of loves lost proves a cinematic feat that no audience will soon forget. (In English, Danish and Czech with English subtitles) - J.B.H.
