(Gwai Wik)

Year: 2006
Language: Cantonese
Run Time: 108 minutes

A best-selling romance novelist decides to try her hand at something new and delves into a novel about the supernatural. But once Ting-Yin starts writing, she finds her own world becoming increasingly mysterious. Unable to resist, she follows a female figure from the pages of her own work and finds herself transported to an inexplicable and terrifying supernatural world. As she struggles to figure out where she is and how to escape, she encounters a variety of horrifying creatures and mysterious places. Her experiences become both more terrifying and more familiar throughout her journey, making her necessary escape even more difficult. Stellar cinematography and a highly stylistic design make the film an awe-inspiring visual achievement. With images that range from beautiful, to peculiar, to blatantly scary, the other worldliness of the film is complete and engrossing. Directed by the highly regarded Pang Brothers, RE-CYCLE is a truly remarkable and wholly fresh horror film that will leaves audiences out of breath and deep in thought. (In Mandarin and Cantonese with English Subtitles.) –J.B.H.
