"You know, one day a truck drives into your life and everything changes," says a struggling Pétur who tries to articulate his recent demise. Pétur and Ásta have been pleasantly married for the past ten years. They have a son named Örn and a second child on the way. Just before they embark on a vacation in the tropics, Örn suddenly faints during a soccer game. When blood tests are done at the hospital, the doctors discover that Örn's blood type does not match that of either Pétur or Ásta-an undeniable indication of Ásta's infidelity. Upon hearing this news, Petur's rage leads him on a path of self-destruction, from drinking excessively to dating inappropriate women. Director Árni Ólafur Ásgeirsson's first feature film THICKER THAN WATER lures us into Pétur's troubled perspective as he copes with this shattering revelation. With compelling performances by the leads, this emotional drama proves to be a confident and precise debut effort from the director. (In Icelandic with English subtitles) – E.J.B
