The Israeli drama RESTORATION begins with a death and delves into the emotional soil of surviving. When Malamud passes away, his struggling furniture restoration shop seems destined to crumble, but his aging business partner Yaakov Fidelman hangs on to hope. In an odd twist of events, Malamud bequeathes his share of the shop not to his partner, but to Yaakov's businessman son Noah. Unsentimental and ambitious, Noah intends to close up the business and make a profit in real estate. But a mysterious and talented young assistant arrives just in time. Anton is a skilled craftsman—sensitive, gifted, and everything Noah is not. He sets out to save the business by restoring a valuable Steinway piano and along the way wins the hearts of both Noah's father and beautiful, pregnant wife Hava. RESTORATION is a powerful drama, with nuanced performances; a journey into the past in order to move forward. (In Hebrew with subtitles) – S.H.
