April and the Extraordinary World

Set in an alternate universe where scientists have been disappearing for decades, robbing the world of their 20th century inventions, APRIL AND THE EXTRAORDINARY WORLD tells of the fantastical journey of a young girl (voiced by Marion Cotillard) searching for her scientist parents in 1941 France. Decades before she was born, April’s grandfather was the French emperor’s top scientist working on a serum for making super-soldiers. Instead he created a serum allowing animals the ability to speak. Since then the world has gotten bleaker without the advances of the world’s greatest minds, April’s parents among them. Spanning decades and crossing borders, this film offers audiences a Jules Verne-style adventure complete with espionage, dastardly villains, and a clever cat named Darwin as we follow the brave April on her search for answers to the world’s biggest questions. Engaging for the whole family, this imaginative film, which is based on a popular French graphic novel, will remind us it’s not just the inventions that move us to greatness, but the inventiveness of great people. (In French with subtitles) –T.W.
