Life is not just an ideology. When you are Palestinian and gay in Tel Aviv, however, ideologies can be fierce. This full-immersion documentary follows three young men living and loving in the middle of war. Khader lives with his Jewish lover, David, and is facing a crisis of staying to fight or fleeing. Fadi is having an internal political battle as he dates a Jewish soldier who denies there is an Occupation. Naeem is braving the terrifying challenge of coming out to his traditional family, who consider being gay as “a huge blow from God.” Together with their friends, these queer warriors form a cultural resistance group named Qambuta (cauliflower). They engage in a struggle where the battlefields are digital, occupation is cultural and religious, and casualties may be bloodless but no less devastating. Sometimes tense and painful, the inspiring and eye-opening ORIENTED doesn't focus on tanks and guns. These warriors know what a screwed up world they've inherited, and they are going to change it one fabulous video at a time. (In English, Arabic, and Hebrew with subtitles) –C.R.
