It’s been 20 years since the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, yet its lingering physical and psychological aftershocks are on daily display for Saša Susic. Depressed and unemployed, the 40-year-old war veteran lives with his parents in Sarajevo. His father, Muhamed, thinks PTSD is a scam of the lazy. His mother, Marija, a retired teacher, is more sympathetic and optimistic. His sister, Senada, is pregnant and living in Slovenia. With some impending family crises on the horizon, Saša must decide what really matters in life. His salvation may arrive in the form of Lejla, a bright-eyed photographer who devotes much of her creative energy to chronicling a subject Saša understands: the fallout from the war. Writer-director Ines Tanovic based OUR EVERYDAY LIFE partly on her own family and experiences growing up in Sarajevo. Although dark clouds hover over the Susics, Tanovic has created an endearing collection of characters who overcome family tensions to learn about loving and caring.
