Sports are our central cultural activity. We pour our hopes, dreams, and passions into it, and out of it rises our heroes and role models. For some of these heroes the price of fame was hiding the truth of who they were: LGBT athletes who knew their fortunes lay strictly in the closet. That began to change in the 1970s with heroic men and women such as David Kopay and Billie Jean King. Today the cultural shift is huge, but it is by no means complete. This joyous film gives us the history of LGBT athletes and the courageous battles they fought, on and off the fields. With a championship collection of vintage film and video clips, this world-class group of trailblazers share their stories and hold nothing back. We see the arc of tragedy and triumph, celebrating how far we've come and showing how far we've yet to go. Bring your team colors, lucky charms, and pom-poms. OUT TO WIN will have you cheering Team Humanity on to victory! –C.R.
