As the protagonist in this captivating film, actor Vincent Lindon absolutely enthralls as Thierry, a man looking for work and dignity in today’s economic climate. Unemployed, Thierry spends his days training for jobs he’ll likely never get, practicing how to interview for jobs he likely doesn’t want, and facing the harsh realities of a middle-aged man looking for work. Already recognized for his efforts with the Best Actor Award at Cannes, Lindon’s quiet repose and gravity work as the audience’s window into the humiliating world of a man who simply wants to feel some sort of worth to his wife and son. After finally finding a job working as a security guard for a big department store (think: Walmart), Thierry now faces a new degradation: helping propagate the very economic climate and elitist protection that put him and his friends out of work in the first place. THE MEASURE OF A MAN is a searing social study about the search for self-worth and grace in a new world that rarely rewards either. (In French with subtitles) –T.W.
