Christopher and Daniel are getting married tomorrow. Christopher, the younger half of the couple, is both excited and trying to keep his husband-to-be calm. Daniel doesn’t handle disruptions or surprises well at all and tends to stress out in pursuit of perfection. Tomorrow’s huge wedding and tonight’s lavish feast for family and friends have him wired. Quicker than you can say “nuptials,” the surprise train arrives. First is Emma, Christopher’s dearest friend from childhood. Their reunion is a wedding gift from Christopher’s friends. Her arrival (and very existence) is a jolt to Daniel’s meticulous plans. Next comes the early arrival of Daniel’s family and tension between the grooms. But when Zoe, who is performing the marriage, gets a sudden call from Scorsese to be in a film and needs to leave before the wedding, Daniel (and the whole wedding) may detonate. With grace, charm, and no agendas other than romantic ones, DO YOU TAKE THIS MAN? proves that all family, all friends, and all couples are gloriously insane. —C.R.
