Young Gilbert has the worst egg allergy in the world. His reactions to eggs earned him the nickname “Spewbert.” His family has moved to a new town, where nobody knows about Spewbert. But Gilbert’s fresh start with new friends over Christmas is threatened by a parental business trip. Gilbert could lose the chance to befriend a new neighbor and be on the local hockey team unless his parents find a suitable sitter. Enter Gilbert’s very weird (and very flatulent) Aunt Doris. Her vision of the holidays does not include Gilbert’s friends or even leaving the house. Gilbert resists and makes Aunt Doris mad. Suddenly, she goes from merely weird to flat-out nuts. Worse, she begins using the most awful weapon in the world against Gilbert: eggs! This, of course, means war. In the deliciously dark tradition of Roald Dahl and Lemony Snicket, GILBERT’S GRIM REVENGE is an astute tale of accepting and standing up for yourself. It is a wicked treat guaranteed to creep-out, gross-out, and delight the whole family. (In Norwegian with subtitles) —C.R.
