Na Dow, recently unemployed in Taiwan, just added drug runner to his résumé and needs a ride to his next drop. Xu, a pleasant, 20-year veteran taxi driver, insists on being Na Dow’s round-trip cabbie of choice for his trip from Taipei to his destination south of the city. After a questionable pit stop, the two arrive as scheduled for the routine handoff. But the friendly exchange takes a dark turn when shots are fired, and Na Dow and Xu find themselves locked in the trunk of a Mercedes. Caught in the middle of a deadly drug dealer feud, the unlikely pair must decide if it is best to go their separate ways or honor their agreement to finish the job together. Between stages of suspense and brief moments of gruesome torture, director Mong-Hong Chung playfully injects bouts of comedic relief for an unexpected change of pace, making GODSPEED an unforgettable ride with surprises at every turn. (In Mandarin, Taiwanese, Thai, and Cantonese with subtitles) —A.B.
