Jesus is in need of salvation. Raised by a mostly absent father, Jesus aimlessly wanders about with a gang hoping for success as a boy band. Jesus and his friends exist in a haze of drink, drugs, and sexual encounters. One evening in the local park they encounter a young gay man passed out from alcohol and begin to mess with him. The encounter escalates, leaving the boy in a coma and police searching for the attackers. Horrified at what he’s done and fearful of the consequences, Jesus breaks down and confesses the attack and his involvement to his father. Jesus’ friends fear he will snitch and threaten to frame him for the crime. Torn between self-blame for his son’s actions and love for his only child, Jesus’ father must now make devastating choices that will forever alter both their lives. Fearlessly graphic and crafted with an edgy immediacy, JESUS is an intense journey to the limits of family and loyalty. (In Spanish with subtitles) —C.R.
