If you’re a fan of Jeopardy! then you probably know who Arthur Chu is. WHO IS ARTHUR CHU? chronicles the whereabouts of a man who became a villain trying to be a hero. After drawing the ire of television game show fans worldwide for his unique style of play on America’s favorite game show, Cleveland-born Arthur Chu turned his sights on issues important to him as a blogger, columnist, and panelist championing the rights of those who are marginalized in the online community. This portrait of Chu, who is not afraid of sticking up for himself, provides an honest and unflinching look into the life of a complicated man who is simply trying to stand up for what he believes, even if that means going up against all sorts of bullies in the Twittersphere. At certain times, Chu comes across as daring as he puts himself on the front lines of issues like gamergate. At other times, he’s aloof and inconsiderate of his wife’s needs and the sacrifices she’s made in the name of supporting Chu as he works to leverage his celebrity status for good. WHO IS ARTHUR CHU? is an important look at how a person who became famous on screen can become even more important off screen. —T.W.
