Country: ISRAEL, AUSTRIA
Run Time: 94 minutes
Dr. Yoel Halberstam, a historian at the Holocaust Institute, is trying to halt construction in a small town in Austria where 200 Jewish laborers were said to have been massacred in 1945. The mass grave was never located, documents are missing, and the town’s current officials tend to deny the event took place. Yoel has two weeks to present evidence; otherwise construction will resume and the graves may be forever lost. Yoel will not relent, even when a new document reveals a shocking truth about his own mother, one that could destroy his family. Powered by an extraordinary lead performance and a fearless and intelligent script, THE TESTAMENT generates the suspense of a thriller without a single gunshot and conveys the utter horror of the Holocaust without a single image of atrocity. Based on true events, this is emotional and cerebral cinema of the highest order. It will chill you, even as you cheer Yoel’s unstoppable crusade to uncover history and the truth, no matter the cost.
