The wall dividing Israel from the Occupied Territories separates Palestinian family man Mustafa from his Israeli wife and children. Since he has a work permit, he’s able to visit them with a certain amount of frequency, but his staunch moral beliefs prevent him from ever becoming a citizen of Israel himself. The title 200 METERS comes from the distance Mustafa lives from his own family—close enough that they can flicker their lights to communicate and say good night, but far enough to be a hurdle when it really matters. When his young son ends up badly injured and in the hospital, bureaucratic obstacles prevent Mustafa from entering Israel through the official channels. He pays a high fee to be illegally smuggled in a dangerous caravan with a crew of motley figures, each armed with their own potent story. Politically charged, this gripping road movie is anchored by a soulful lead performance that puts a human face and beating heart to the headlines and news stories emerging from this deeply embattled region.
