At 26 years old, Jacinta is finishing up the latest in her string of sentences at the Maine Correctional Center. She’s no stranger to prison life—a place she’s frequented for the last decade—or to her favorite fellow inmate, her mother Rosemary. Rosemary exposed Jacinta to a life of crime and drugs at a young age, and despite her faults, Jacinta considers her mother a hero. After surviving an upbringing riddled with abuse and addiction, Jacinta is vulnerable to fall back into old habits once she is released. Refusing to repeat history is Jacinta’s own daughter Caylynn, whose pre-teen perspective on her mother’s lifestyle rivals most adults, and who wants nothing more than her mom to finally get it right this time. An incredibly raw, intimate documentary, JACINTA holds nothing back on its journey to depict the devastating cycles of addiction and the powerful connection between generations of mothers and daughters challenged to withstand it. — A.B.
