When Tom Hargrove was running late for work one morning, he chose to take the scenic route to avoid heavy city traffic in Cali, Colombia, where he worked as an agricultural scientist. After Tom was kidnapped by the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) at a rural roadblock, the notorious guerilla army demanded a $6 million ransom for Tom’s safe return, launching the start of arduous negotiation battles with his family. Tom’s wife Susan and their two sons were joined by close family friends and negotiation professionals to navigate months of back-and-forth dealings with no guarantee of a happy ending. To cope with the uncertainty of his father’s return, Tom’s son Miles began filming the group’s experience. From coded phone calls and high-stakes exchanges, to care-free moments of love and togetherness to help pass the time, the footage provides unique access to the family’s unexpected collection of emotions through the challenge of a lifetime. Twenty-five years later, Miles transformed his video diaries to share his incredible true story in MIRACLE FISHING: KIDNAPPED ABROAD. (In English, German, and Spanish with subtitles) — A.B.
