PREPARATIONS TO BE TOGETHER FOR AN UNKNOWN PERIOD OF TIME is a beguiling exploration of love and obsession that shimmers like a mysterious dream just out of reach. Set in Hungary, the film follows Marta, a successful neurosurgeon who leaves behind her career in the United States to be with her lover János. They agree to romantically meet on a bridge in Budapest, but János never shows up. Shocked, Marta eventually tracks him down only to be met by a man who stares vacantly at her, seeming to have no idea who she is at all. A startling portrait of shifting realities and slippery narratives, the film delves deep into the simmering internal landscape of a woman unclear as to whether she’s losing her mind or falling victim to some dark charade. Rather than simply return home, Marta begins to stalk János, drawing the viewer into her mystifying world of anguish and confusion.
