One day, the pink clouds arrived. No one knew where they came from or why, but they were quickly found to be toxic, resulting in death after only ten seconds of exposure. Like nebulous cotton candy, they drifted with questionable intent, but never disappeared. When the clouds came, Giovana was just waking up on her balcony with Yago, a stranger she brought home the night before. But with mere seconds on the clock, there was only enough time to run inside and lock the door. Separated from their friends and family, they must learn to live together. The two invent and reinvent themselves as a couple while doing their best to cope with the extended lockdown. As Yago grows to accept their confined fate as a little slice of utopia, Giovana longs for the outside world—a reality that may never exist again. Although written and shot pre-COVID, this Brazilian near-fi drama is a prescient vision of life in quarantine. With its creeping soundtrack and eerie pink palette, THE PINK CLOUD transforms the enclosed walls of an apartment into a surreal microcosm of strikingly familiar emotions.
