Sami Najjar serves as an Arabic-English translator for the Syrian Olympic team at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. However, a slip of the tongue when translating is seen as a slight to the new Syrian president. Sami is forced to defect to Australia and remain as a political refugee. Eleven years later, it's the midst of the Arab Spring, and Syrians' peaceful protests for civil liberties and human rights have been met with government-sanctioned violence. When Sami learns his dissident brother has been detained by the Syrian government, he insists on returning to Syria despite the risk. While Sami navigates his turbulent homeland to locate his brother, he's also forced to reconcile with the family he left behind and the consequences they suffered for his Freudian slip. THE TRANSLATOR is an intense and compelling story of redemption and self-sacrifice. (In English and Arabic with subtitles) — R.R.
