For Iranian men, military service is mandatory. They can’t get a passport or a job, or start a dignified life in Iran, without having served. And while some of these compulsory tasks in the military are mundane… others will haunt these soldiers for the rest of their lives. Under the authoritarian Iranian regime, executions are common. People can be sentenced to death for something as benign as drinking alcohol. And the soldiers who are charged with carrying out these executions face a dire choice: kill or to be punished themselves for refusing to take another life. An anthology of four stories, THERE IS NO EVIL explores the consequences of executions in Iran and the impact on those forced to see them through. A dynamic blend of miniature plots involving suspense, romance, and drama, THERE IS NO EVIL is an enthralling film from start to finish. Created at great risk to the production team, director Mohammad Rasoulof had to film this project in secret and is currently imprisoned and banned from leaving Iran as a result.
