A Panther in Africa

A PANTHER IN AFRICA explores the legacy of the 1960s through the eyes of former Black Panther Pete O'Neal, exiled in Tanzania for over 30 years. O'Neal and his wife Charlotte Hill O'Neal were both members of the Kansas City Chapter of the Black Panther party. After arriving in Tanzania they co-founded the United African American Community Center in 1991, which offers computer literacy classes, English language training and AIDS/HIV education. The film tells the story of how a 1960s radical who advocated violence on the streets of Kansas City ended up a global activist who advocates community service in the impoverished countryside of Tanzania. A PANTHER IN AFRICA takes viewers on a dramatic journey with a modern-day global citizen – a man whose activist work and exile status tell a compelling story about America's past and present.
