Film Overview

From the director of “Midnight Family” comes a year in the life of Margaret “Mati” Engel, a chaplain resident at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City in the early days of COVID, as she learns the benefits and challenges of spiritual guidance. Winner of the U.S. Documentary Directing Award at Sundance 2023. —M.G.In New York City’s Mount Sinai Hospital, Mati is working through a year-long chaplain residency program, providing spiritual care for a wide range of patients experiencing some of life’s most traumatic events. The mounting daily pressure to find the balance to serve her patients while navigating her own personal battles amidst the pandemic illustrates how badly Mati and her peers need their own support network. Awarded the 2023 Sundance Film Festival U.S. Documentary Competition directing prize, A STILL SMALL VOICE takes us inside these systems of support from patient to caregiver to supervisor, intimately capturing the weight of caring for others and needing care yourself. A work of intense compassion, this documentary is not only a profound reflection on the burden born by the medical community at our current moment, but also about the resiliency of the human spirit. —C.F.GUEST(S) ARE SCHEDULED TO BE IN ATTENDANCE FOR Q&A
