Film Overview

Columbia Pictures in association with Nelson Entertainment and Alive Films and the Cleveland International Film Festival are proud to present the world premiere of A TIME OF DESTINY, a romantic suspense-thriller set in San Diego and Italy during World War II. This intimate yet epic tale of young lovers forced apart by turbulent family conflicts and the war was co-written by director Gregory Nava and producer Anna-Thomas, who collaboration on the moving drama EL NORTE won them an Academy Award nomination. Oscar winners William Hurt and Timothy Hutton star as young men brought together by fateful circumstances. Josie (Melissa Leo) and Jack (Timothy Hutton) are forbidden to marry by Josie's dominating father. A tragedy follows the desperate lovers' elopement and Jack unknowingly becomes the hunted prey of his wife's obsessed brother (William Hurt). Hiding his identity, Martin befriends Jack as they serve together on the Italian front. Back home, at war's end, suspense builds to spine-tingling, edge-of-the-seat tension in a climactic confrontation. Nava's hypnotic treatment of reality, which he used so effectively in EL NORTE, expresses A TIME OF DESTINY's personal and universal themes with emotional intensity. A powerful cast, vivid evocation of time and place and stunning cinematography combine with dazzling effect.
