About This Film
Film Overview
A Pakistani must marry a Pakistani. That is the rule for 18-year-old Zahira, now at the age of her dreaded arranged marriage. She and her family live abroad. But thanks to technology, Zahira grudgingly meets her less-than-desirable suitors online, meticulously hand-chosen by her mother. Not surprisingly, none are to her liking, and Zahira feels trapped in the life laid out before her. Complicated by an unexpected pregnancy and a longing to break tradition and choose a husband for herself, Zahira refuses to return home until her parents no longer demand she go through with the marriage. Caught in the middle falls her faithful brother Amir who, until this point, has always given Zahira his unwavering support. But knowing that shame will surely fall on his family if Zahira chooses not to wed, Amir is torn between protecting his sister and upholding the wishes of their adamant parents. Based on true events, A WEDDING reveals the drastic lengths a family will go to preserve their honor in the name of their beloved daughter. (In French and Urdu with subtitles) —A.B.
