Film Overview

In this minimalist, Los Angeles-set dramedy from debut filmmaker Omar S. Kamara, which won the 2024 Slamdance Film Festival Audience Award, two Sierra Leonean-American brothers—one an actor, the other a law student—test their familial and cultural bond as one reveals a secret that could change everything.AFRICAN GIANTS is an intimate chamber drama about two first-generation Sierra Leonean immigrant siblings—elder brother Alhaji, a young actor pursuing his dreams in Los Angeles, and younger brother Sheku, visiting on a break from law school. Reunited, the two brothers reflect on their separate uphill climbs, along with their experience with the American Dream. But when Sheku brings news that will shake their bond, the weekend quickly becomes a reckoning between the brothers and the ties that bind them. AFRICAN GIANTS is a tense and loving portrait of the complexities of brotherhood and the Black immigrant experience told in two richly developed characters. —C.F.GUEST(S) IN ATTENDANCE
