About This Film
Film Overview
Miriam (Adriana Llabres, Narcos: Mexico), a CODA (Child of Deaf Adult), is a sign-language instructor and stage actress whose social and professional lives split apart when she starts experiencing progressive hearing loss, learning that the world as it currently stands is not built for Deaf people.Miriam balances her time between her passions, both as an actress and a sign language teacher. Though she freely gives her support to the Deaf people in her life (including her mother and girlfriend), Miriam is alarmed when she begins to lose her hearing. With intricate, complex sound design that intimately places the viewer in her experience, ALL THE SILENCE follows Miriam as she keeps her rapidly fading hearing a secret. And all the while tensions mount in her relationships with her girlfriend and a new friend who joins her school. As Miriam clings to the sound around her and struggles with her new normal, the film offers multiple and sometimes surprising perspectives from each of its Deaf and hard-of-hearing characters. —C.F.
