Young Cléo is devastated to learn her beloved nanny must leave, as she’s needed back in Cape Verde to tend to her ailing family. To soften the blow, the impressionable six-year-old tags along on the trip and, along the way, learns more about the woman who practically raised her.Six-year-old Cléo lives with her widowed father in Paris, but her closest friend in the world is her nanny Gloria, who has become Cléo’s prominent mother figure. When Gloria must return to her home in Cape Verde to care for her own family, Cléo’s world is forever altered. To ease Cléo into this new transition, the two hatch a plan for Cléo to travel to Gloria’s home and spend one last summer with Gloria and her family. When she arrives in Cape Verde, a very different environment than she is used to, young Cléo must learn the difficult lesson that Gloria’s world does not revolve around her.
