About This Film
Film Overview
The discovery of a cave in rural Spain sparks an unexpected chain of violence and revenge. Called on to survey the newly discovered cave, Esteban, a speleologist, is paired with a local photographer to determine and document the cave's possible impact on the community. When the surveyors exit the cave, they find Esteban's girlfriend Gabi in a state of panic; she has just been brutally assaulted. What follows is an unparalleled study of revenge and morality told across six chapters, each realized from the point of view of each of the film's protagonists (including Gabi's attacker and the man wrongly accused for the crime). Impressively executed by debut director Sanchez-Cabezudo, ANGOSTO is a highly stylistic film that proves an intriguing and meditative allegory on violence. Packed with shocking moments and an ever expanding back story, the film provides audiences with as much suspense as substance against the backdrop of the Spanish countryside. –J.B.H.
