Film Overview

Ariel Bari lost both of his legs in an industrial accident. Only 33, this skilled mechanic suddenly became wheelchair bound and at the mercy of his country's inefficient health system. Ariel, always good with his hands, becomes obsessed with replacing his lost limbs with a mechanical set he will design and build on his own. As his family begins to crumble under the strain of his anger and frustration, Ariel faces challenges on a number of new fronts. What is he willing to risk and lose in order to be able to stand up on his own? Combining an ethereal and dream-like approach with intensely detailed daily moments, ARIEL is a haunting and poetic documentary that charts the struggle of a man who not only wants to walk again on his own, but also wants to proudly reclaim his place in a world that views him as incomplete. Harsh, beautiful, and utterly unique, ARIEL is a gripping journal of tragedy and triumph that viewers will not soon forget. (In Spanish with subtitles) —C.R.
