About This Film
Film Overview
At 17, Vika (Unorthodox actress Shira Haas) desperately wants to be like any other rebellious teenager: drinking with her friends, exploring her sexuality, and embracing her independence. But Vika’s desires for normalcy are derailed by a degenerative motor disease that is rapidly taking over her body. Not only does Vika’s diagnosis leave her feeling isolated from her peers, but it also impacts her relationship with her mother Asia, a nurse with a work-hard, play-hard lifestyle who has never hidden much from her daughter. As Vika’s condition deteriorates, the disconnect between the women broadens, and Asia struggles to accept the reality of her daughter's limitations. In spite of these devastating obstacles, Asia and Vika will learn how to lean on and support each other through Vika’s illness. Intimate and poignant, ASIA at its core is a story of life, love, and the unparalleled bond between mothers and daughters. (In Hebrew and Russian with subtitles) — G.S.
