About This Film
Film Overview
In a remote coastal villiage in Denmark, where all the residents are elderly and deeply religious, live two spinster sisters. Togeter they lead the community in the traditions of self-denial and fervent worship that their vicar father taught. When a mysterious French woman arrives on their shores, she hides her cosmopolitan past and gourmet talents to become the sisters' housekeeper. Reluctantly she adaptes to their world of tasteless bread and fish until she learns that she has won the Parisian lottery. Using the vicar' centenary as an excuse, she volunteers to prepare a feast for the villagers, knowing that she will not only fill the bellies of these grim and unsmiling people, but nourish their souls as well. A cinematic banquet, this film should not be seen on an empty stomach.
