Film Overview

Shot in sharply contrasted black and white, the images in BOY MEETS GIRL evoke those of Cocteau and the early work of Truffaut and Godard. Yet 24-year-old Leos Carax's first feature reflects his own very contemporary view of disenchanted youth in Paris after dark. Alex (Denis Lavant), a young, would-be filmmaker, wander through the night looking for love. His experiences are shown in vignettes that are often quite funny, sometimes poignant, and always darkly arresting in their combination of surrealistic and punky atmosphere. Among other creatures of the night, Alex meets Mireille (Mireille Perrier); all wrong for each other – what else can they do but fall in love? After this stunning debut, Carax clearly has arrived and made his mark.
