In this independently made animated feature—using the same software as the Oscar®-nominated “Flow”—hang out with Florida teenager Billy 5000 and his friends in their outrageous and increasingly bizarre adventures through rideshare apps, sick beats, and an alien invasion. Featuring vocal performances from alternative comics Julio Torres, Joe Pera, and Janeane Garofalo.Something is rotten in the state of Florida. It’s the day after Christmas, and the deadness of the year hangs in the swampy air. Billy 5000—an aimless teen doing his best to fill his days and his pockets—has just dropped out of high school, and he’s content to spend his time slacking, shoplifting, and occasionally making a delivery for a food-on-demand app. The gig economy has its ups and downs, and it brings Billy into contact with a series of oddball characters, some of them harmless and others quite menacing. But if he can pull together a quick $5,000 before New Year’s, he’ll have what he needs to get his life on track. He’s got it all worked out. The cosmic forces in charge of Florida have other plans for Billy. But during a routine fast food dropoff, he becomes the caretaker of a bizarre Donut-shaped creature from another world. Things spiral from there, and Billy finds himself having to make hard choices about love, friendship, and the most important thing of all: cash money dollar bills. It all swirls into a dreamy coming-of-age story, packed with heart, humor, and banger musical numbers.
