About This Film
Film Overview
One of the most powerful anti-war films ever made, COME AND SEE follows a young Russian boy, Flyora, across Nazi-occupied Soviet territory in 1943 (Byelorussia). The film is based on Alex Adamovich's “Khatyn Story” which is a harrowing, documented story of one of 628 Byelorussian villages burned (together with all their inhabitants) by the Nazis. Director Elem Klimove (RASPUTIN) has used all the technical resources available to the cinema to fashion a twoering, cathartic experience that leaves audiences pale and silent. Superlative in regards to acting, cinematography, music, and all facets of technical direction, COME AND SEE is a must for anyone intersted in the possibilities of cinema at the edge of its limits. Winner of the Gold Prize at the Moscow International Film Festival. –Leonard Schein
