About This Film
Film Overview
Although CELTS is centered around a child’s birthday party, it is definitely not suitable for children. While birthday girl Minja and her friends dance around the living room in their ninja turtles-themed outfits, eating cake and drinking soda, the adults in the kitchen are drinking alcohol, doing drugs, and sneaking off to have sex in the empty bedrooms. With love triangles at play and contagious sexual energy in the air, Minja’s mother—party host Marijana—can only hold things together for so long before becoming completely consumed with the frustration of her own sexless marriage. As a mix of relatives, friends, and ex-lovers continue to arrive at the house, each with their own personal conflicts and motivations, the party gets increasingly chaotic…and one quiet little boy somehow witnesses all of it. Set in 1993 Yugoslavia, amidst the political entropy and economic turmoil of the time, CELTS is an engaging dramedy packed with compelling stories that unfold over the course of the evening. —G.S.
