Film Overview

Original Title: Eshtebak
English Title: CLASH

Set in the chaotic time that followed the 2013 ousting of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, CLASH uses a unique setting to examine the various political views of Egyptians from different social backgrounds. The entire film takes place in the back of a police truck that’s filled with Muslim Brotherhood loyalists and pro-army supporters of all ages. There’s also an American reporter and Christian photographer, who are seen as outsiders and not exactly welcomed. For one reason or another, they’ve all drawn the ire of the overwhelmed army and are on their way to jail. When their journey takes an unexpected and dangerous detour, these strangers must come together to survive. It won’t be easy for this opinionated bunch, but they’ll soon learn there’s more in life that unites us than divides us. When push comes to shove, we’re all humans who want the best for our loved ones. The story is incredibly gripping, thanks to Mohamed Diab’s inventive directing style. It humanizes the Egyptian revolution in a powerful way. (In Arabic with subtitles) —E.F. CLASH was selected as Egypt's entry for Best Foreign Language Film for this year's Academy Awards®.
