About This Film
Film Overview
Director Frédéric Guillaume likes adventure, freedom, and intoxication. So when the love of his life gets pregnant, he is naturally concerned about how a baby will affect his lifestyle. He is constantly filming his experiences as a way to face his fears and as “something to hold onto in troubled times.” Thus his entire life becomes the subject of his lens. CLEAR YEARS follows Guillaume through the ten years of his relationship with his girlfriend, Claire, including their courtship, the birth of their daughter, and all the pitfalls of a contemporary relationship when two people with independent lives try to settle down. An intimate love letter to Claire and their daughter, CLEAR YEARS is a brave diary that doesn’t shy away from heartbreak, even as Claire begins to doubt her love for Guillaume. Like a beautifully arranged symphony, this film’s poetry lies in its ability to be visually stunning, while also being incredibly honest. (In French with subtitles) –T.W.
