About This Film
Film Overview
Having adapted The Catcher in the Rye to a play, Jamie Schwartz (Alex Wolff of the Nat & Alex Wolff band) leaves his swank prep school in search of the book’s reclusive author, J.D. Salinger (Oscar® winner Chris Cooper). Bullied at school and feeling more and more like his hero Holden Caufield, Jamie is searching for answers that can only come from the people we want to be–even if the people we want to be are fictional. COMING THROUGH THE RYE is a coming-of-age story steeped in the humor, charm, and angst that made the book an international best seller. Traveling with Deedee, a local girl (the ever-charismatic Stefania LaVie Owen), the two begin to discover that maybe the answers will never be found because we’re always looking in the wrong places. Set against the backdrop of the height of the Vietnam War, COMING THROUGH THE RYE is an engrossing film that captures a time in America when our youth began to stop looking for answers and began asking questions. –T.W.
