Film Overview
Filmed during a 4 day festival of black dance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, DANCE BLACK AMERICA immerses the viewer in a joyous celebration, from backstage to centerstage and throughout the theater. The dazzling variety of dance forms include traditional African sources, American modern dance, breakdancing, tapdancing and even ropedancing. Most prominently featured is the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is their vibrant star performer, Donna Wood. From the gifted amateurs to the polished pro's, all the dancers are enthralling. Narrated by Geoffrey Holder, the dynamic film is both breathtaking and quite touching as it captures the heat of the kinetic electricity on stage, interspersed with brief but meaningful interviews backstage.
