About This Film
Film Overview
Love is love. Does it really matter if it's a dog? For some people, their dogs are like family members. Such is the case for Beth Winters, a woman who loves her dog more than her husband. Played by the indelible Diane Keaton, Beth is a lonely wife to a self-involved surgeon—a man who knows more about his patients than his own wife and daughter. One day Beth discovers an abandoned dog on the side of the freeway. After bringing him into their home, against the wishes of her husband Joe—an always entertaining Kevin Kline—Beth falls in love with her new DARLING COMPANION and names the sweetheart of a mutt Freeway. But when Joe loses Freeway on a walk in the woods, Beth's life comes to a screeching halt. As the couple enlists a slew of hilarious characters as search parties along their journey to find Freeway, they discover their own past resentments and hidden vulnerabilities. But what they also find is that love can be rekindled in even the most unlikely situations in this delightful comedy from the man who brought us “The Big Chill.” – M.M.
