CIFF favorite Dave Boyle brings back his unique style of storytelling in what can be considered “Surrogate Valentine 2.” DAYLIGHT SAVINGS reintroduces us to Goh Nakamura, the singer-songwriter featured in last year's “Surrogate Valentine.” Goh has finally made it to the big-time, having one of his songs featured in a commercial for Relatrix, an anti-depressant, and nothing can make him happier than sitting on the couch with his girlfriend watching the ad on TV and looking forward to his upcoming tour, “the biggest tour of his life.” However, the yin and yang of life can be brutal sometimes and we soon witness Goh being dumped by his girlfriend via online chat. Plus his hand is broken when it is slammed in a car door—an extremely unfortunate fate for a guitarist. We might start to hope that Goh has a supply of pills from his commercial deal to help him through, but we can't forget that we're watching Goh Nakamura, and music has the power to heal, especially when it comes from a beautiful girl. On a road trip with his friend to Vegas, he reconnects with the beautiful girl he met at a party right after his girlfriend dumped him. Will this Vegas trip be the cure for what ails him, or just a placebo? –B.G.
