About This Film
Film Overview
DINNER FOR ADELE is a wild, imaginative spoof of Nick Carter, the turn-of-the-century sleuth of America's early pulp detective novels. This hilarious parody is a blend of fantasy and fiction featuring a bag of tricks including everything from art nouveau antiques to a man-eating plant named – you guessed it – Adele. Carter is summoned from New York to Prague to work on a missing dog case. Along with a suitcase containing a laboratory and an endless supply of weird inventions, he travels with a huge trunk full of disguises and costumes necessary for his search. In a film filled with surprises, Lipsky, a veteran comedy director, utilizes superb period sets and costumes and ingenious mechanical gadgetry. This visually seductive film was shot on location in Prague.
