Film Overview

Distinguished by exceptional performances in the lead roles, DOG'S FEA ST is a forthright social drama focusing on the lives of two outcasts during a bitter winter in a small town near Leningrad. At a railway station, a drunken cleaning woman, Jeanne, picks up a stranger, Arkady, on New Year's Eve and takes him back to her squalid, dirty apartment. Having just completed an enforced stay in a hospital for alcoholics, he is in no mood to put up with her boozing. But he takes pity on her, helping her with her work and sleeping on the floor of her apartment. DOG'S FEA ST doesn't flinch from showing what alcohol has wrought on its characters; while Arkady tries to stay off the bottle, the unfortunate Jeanne exists in a perpetual drunken haze.
