Film Overview
The Takarazuka Revue is an all-singing, all-dancing, all-female extravaganza staged by the Takarazuka Music School and theatre in Japan. What makes the female audiences buy tickets months in advance and stand in line for hours to deliver love notes, are the “males” who are the objects of their passionate ardor-women who act, look, and behave like”ideal” men. Filmmakers Kim Longinotto and Jano Williams have constructed a fascinating document that captures a breathless fascination with, and understanding of, this particularly Japenese form of andorgyny.
